Question by bob13908: What are some good supplements to take with steady weight training?
I’m about 6’3″ 215 lbs. I’m looking to start a weight training routine to build lean muscle. I want good definition, abs, pecks, big arms… the whole nine yards. What are some good supplements or proteins or whatever to take to help speed the process up? Also, where can I get them. I’d also like to know what types of foods to eat. Thank You.

What are some good supplements for bulking up?

Question by Swimman: What are some good supplements for bulking up?
I am starting to work out, and I was wondering if anyone knows any good brands and types of supplements are good for gaining muscle.

I am already really skinny, so I don’t want to burn fat. Just gain muscle… any suggestions?

P.S. I like things that don’t taste like crap.

Thanks!

Are supplements better absorbed by your body when taken with actual food?

Question by LoVeSSSiTTT: Are supplements better absorbed by your body when taken with actual food?
I’d think so because food is better absorbed than supplements.. but if you take a supplement with food.. and the supplement breaks up before the food is digested, would the body really know the difference? Would the supplement get mixed in with the food or does the body still recognize the supplement as something synthetic and foreign.. and thus not as easily absorbed by the body?

Sorry if this is a weird-worded question. Wasn’t sure exactly how to ask. Thanks!

Question by Chessy: My horse is coming out of the winter really stiff and sore any good supplements?
My horse is 22 so he’s starting to come out of winter really stiff and sore. I can’t ride him over the winter because it gets too icy and dangerous where I live. I have him on a joint supplement called Next Level, but he’s really bad this year and I need some supplements that can help him loosen up. Anything that shows results?

I used Corta-Flx HA for my old horse. When he became really elderly, and I no longer thought the Corta-Flx HA was working well for him, I asked my vet if there was anything better. He recommended Corta-Flx Rx, which you can get through your vet. There are 2 formulas. The regular Corta-Flx Rx is legal for all competitions. But there is a stronger formula that contains herbs (which will test positive in blood tests) called Corta-Flx Rx Ultimate. I saw great improvement with not only my horse, but also a client’s horse that was beginning to have some arthritis in one knee. I highly recommend it.

They’re all basically the same until you get way up there in price. The Body Fortress line, sold at Wal-Mart, has a product called “Super Mass Gainer.” That should help. It’s just lots of whey protein and carbohydrates, which is what you need to gain muscle. And it’s dirt cheap as far as supplements are concerned.

P90X is nice for getting exceptionally defined, but ineffective when it comes to muscle gain. Try Powerlifting (Bench, Squat, Deadlift) and Olympic Lifting (Cleans, Jerks, Snatches) to gain serious strength and muscle.

I recommend locating a CrossFit gym and explaining to them your goals.

Q&A: Can you have a vegan diet with out taking vitamin supplements?

Question by Barbara: Can you have a vegan diet with out taking vitamin supplements?
Can you have a vegan diet, and get all the proper nutrients with out taking supplements? As long as your diet’s healthy you can, right?

Best answer:

Answer by Cliff
Nope. And humans are not supposed to have vitamin supplements, the human body is designed to extract all the vitamins and minerals it needs directly from food. Most nutrients in vitamin supplements end up getting flushed out of the body before they can be absorbed.
Plus, they don’t contain EVERYTHING that a vegan needs that they are missing out on from not eating dairy, eggs, and meat.

How can I stop the effects of ginseng/other energy supplements?

Question by Mike J: How can I stop the effects of ginseng/other energy supplements?
Recently, my mother drank a smoothie from Jamba Juice that had an “energy boost” in it. After drinking a bit of it, her heart started beating really fast and she was showing signs of taking too much of an energy supplement. It occurred to me that I had no idea how to help her, or even make the ginseng/energy supplement stop/slow. Does anyone know how to slow/stop the effects of energy supplements?
Thanks

What is the ideal amount of vitamin and mineral supplements that you can give a horse?

Question by ConcernedForneighbourshorses: What is the ideal amount of vitamin and mineral supplements that you can give a horse?
Is it possable to over feed mineral and vitamin supplements? our neighbors seem to leave at least half a bucket of minerals out for there horses. Its nothing like a mineral lick it looks like calcium or something. Can you over feed theses things? What can happen if you over feed? i have horses but i am just curious what you guys think. please help thankyou

Best answer:

Answer by Barefoottrimmer
This is impossible to answer in a “one size fits all” dimension. You cannot know what the deficiencies are unless you have soil, pasture, feed, and hay analysis. If a horse is given good nutrition, supplements are usually more harmful than good. They can actually produce imbalances in the horse and cause health problems. If your neighbors have had analysis of their feed sources and horses, they should have some parameters. However, most people just think they are doing a good thing with supplements and they are doing a lot of damage to their horses. Some minerals and vitamins are toxic and can cause problems that cannot be corrected once caused. Some minerals are so toxic, a very minute amount can cause death. Nutrition for horses is not simple and putting your trust in companies attempting to sell you something and make millions is a recipe for disaster for the horses. The most benefit is garnered by the supplement companies, without regard for the horses. Sad but true. Take care
